Writing....Writing....Writing

The ‘surajbegur.blogspot.com’ has been launched in March 2010. Yes, that is the blog for which am the scriptwriter. Motto of my life was ‘exploration and experimentation’. What is that exploration and experimentation meant for me? One has to explore into new things of the life, right from thinking to action. More you explore in life, the person become well-informed person. Such person’s thinking becomes rational. It is not enough to have knowledge, but also one has to use it for practically. Right usage at right time. The person has to put himself in different situations to experiment. By doing so person can judge ones own ability i.e. how he reacts to different situation. This is a huge learning curve. Person move towards being ‘HUMAN’ when both exploration and experimentation becomes part of his life.  For such person life becomes a celebration everyday. So this has become caption for my blog.

Initially, I wanted to write at least one article per week. Theme was to write entertainingly educative articles. But I have written only five articles till date. There was a comment I found on my last article which was in December 2010. Why have you not written anything after this? Even I thought so, why? Let me follow the Indian tradition – whenever we mess up things we always blame someone else. We being late for the appointment we blame traffic. Am a true Indian.

Actually, I want to keep the blog clean out of any “ragadwesha’. Last year went through difficult phase of my life. When was it easy? I did not want to write in that state of mind. Lord Krishna is an epitome of love. He is an ultimate management guru in the world. I want to follow his footsteps and want to spread love. So did not write for few months and allowed the thoughts to settle down.

Once you are out of the cycle, then it is very difficult to get back into it. Also was in confusion what to write. In office, they have launched a product - Eikon and it has failed. They could not segment it for the right customers. It has everything for the financial market investors and researchers. Sometimes too much of data is not required for decision making and it confuses. I wanted to restrict the blog for certain issues only. This is exactly opposite of Eikon product. Eikon addressed to wide range while my blog is confined. This has created confusion in mind i.e. what to write. Now am willing to rectify it by addressing it to various aspects of life. Good writer should always address many issues to keep the audience interests.

There was also some kind of doubt in my mind that my English language is not that good grammatically. But usage of English words is better than average. I have been brought up in predominantly Kannada speaking family and studied in Kannada Medium till High-School. But unless you write, how can you improve?

An artist needs encouragement to perform unless like Sun. Did not get much encouragement or rather expected too much. Lost interest. Micro blogging on Facebook has got more comments and attention for me. This is kind of IPL cricket tourney, which gets you name in short span of time. I forgot that blogging on website is more of a one-day international cricket match. Need to be patient and persistent to reach audience. Now am matured enough to understand that.  If the passion is there, you do not need encouragement. But I want to play test cricket i.e. writing a novel.

To close friends always keep telling that I want to write at least one novel in my life span. I have repeated many times in my conversation with them. One day, I was chatting with my faculty and got a feeling. I keep blabbering and do not act. Grammatically correct or not, even if no one reads, let me write. You never know these small-small articles may give me confidence and experience to writer a novel.

Agumbe Sunset...!!!

Agumbe is a well-known place in Karnataka since it gets highest rainfall in a year. If you think that is the reason for being it well known for common man then you are in for a surprise. This place is well known to common man because of Great Shankar Nag who has shown this place as Malgudi in his TV serial “Malgudi Days”, which is acclaimed nationally as well as internationally. But common man also recognises this place for its scenic beauty as well as honeymoon spot. If you ask scientist they will remember it for King Kobra Research Center in this area.

I think you will be wondering what am I trying to say, why this beating around bush and so on. Let me come to the point.

SUNSET at Agumbe is the most spectacular view you can get. This event at Agumbe is out of this world, specially, in winter. You cannot put those into words, better if it is experienced. Mind you, it is not that easy to get the sunset at this place. Agumbe is situated in dense rain forest of Western Ghats. Dad was trying to be part of this event for so many years, rather from his childhood days. But it was so difficult that when he visited Agumbe, it was rather cloudy and not visible. Sometime he passed this place, which was not the event happening time. He kept telling his dream always at home and I used to remember that always during my visit to this place. I was also not lucky enough to witness that event. By the way when I was lucky...!!! But this time when I planned the trip timed it to visit at the event time. But was sure that it would not be so different and it will be as similar as in other area.

We left Horandu afternoon at 2:30pm and need to travel around 110km to reach Agumbe. It is a hilly region and roads with lots of potholes. There was a bit of tension weather we reach before sunset or not. Since it is a winter season, even sun runs away home early due to chillness. Kaam Chor..!! Rather, sun is trying to help the western part of the world, as Christmas is the most celebrated season. Brilliant 24/7 worker..!!! Which one is correct..?  But we did reach Agumbe sunset point by 5:30pm, thanks to driver.

We waited for around 20-25 minutes before Sun started its’ descend. Initially, it was in gold color and looked like fireball. As it progressed, he also caught pleasant evening mood and mellowed down. Now, he turned into a big orange in the blue sky and surrounded by few white clouds.  He was cool and looking smart, even Moon felt jealous of him at this point. People started enjoying this view and they were cheering him. But it lasted for only few more minutes as he said goodbye to all and left. As soon as he left people also left the place.

You might be thinking what special in this event? It is same everywhere in this world. Nope, that was a trick played by the Sun. He was checking the eagerness and patience of the people before he displaying his artistic brilliance. Great Guru always checks his students before teaching him. So is Mr. Sun – Ultimate Guru. With commitment, consistency and for many more aspect, he is a great role model and preaching silently.
Now Sun has descended and settled behind the mountain and started painting the sky without looking the people. His movements and art of holding the paintbrush is not visible, but the caricature was up for the display in the sky. It was treat for the eyes while watching the formation of color in sky. You simply cannot explain those coloring and formation, one needs to experience on his own at Agumbe. It is just not the display for eyes, it also for mind. The view of sun’s artistic brilliance keeps your mind refreshing and entertaining. Coloring and formation kept on changing. One time the cloud formed like a deer, rather golden deer. After some time it changed to look like star war warrior. He has split the canvas into two halves with red line. First half was looking like a flowing river and other half was lots of characters ranging from birds to man made articles. He has also displayed the modern art with his lines and color with shapes and creativeness. He has displayed his artistic professionalism for 20-25 minutes without showing his face. Of course, it was well supported by his team sky, cloud and mountains. It was pure joy and mind blowing. He was hiding since he was shy and could not handle all the praises showered on him. Also might have thought he would get distracted by all the praises.

Sun (monologue) - this kind of distraction is only for you human being not for me my child. Am the eternal performer without asking for service charge as you ask with everyone.

This kind of sunset can be seen only at Agumbe. Because of mountain and sky complementing each other during the day and in the evening it glorifies with Sun joining with his born skill and genius. The greenery is eternal part of this area as it has abundance of water resource for the plants. The mountains are so huge that visually one feels that it is almost touching the sky. Between sky and mountain, Sun gets the unlimited canvas where he can showcase his talent. It is a visual treat. Probably, it will take sometime for this to sink in my mind. Am still with full of joy, which is flowing in the words. I am stopping here, as I could not find new words to admire the event.

Dads dream of watching sunset at Agumbe has been fulfilled. I could score some points on dad’s book. But it was nature, which deserve all the point and am just the facilitator. But I will take my share of points as facilitator (wink).

Sun (monologue) – This bugger never improves, always wants service charge.
Suraj – what to do Guru, am just a common man. Don’t worry you will be there in my pen name when I become a writer.
Sun - shisya, are you trying to corrupt me also....???

Love or Hate..?

If I’m not wanted or welcome, I erase that person from my life. Is it good? Is it bad?

This question was read in Sujatha Satya blog, who is my guide during MBA. The question and thoughts were interesting, but at the same time I felt even I had something to share on this. This question arises in everyone’s life and all has something to say. So decided put this on Facebook and get some thoughts from friends.

Some of them has said leave the negative energy aside convert it to positive, forget past and move on. But these are not practical in life and definitely not for common man to follow. Yes, I do agree with positive thought and forgiveness, but the question to be viewed on more practicality. How do you survive with such person’s. Let us accept the fact that am not Gandhi or Buddha. I am just a common man who want to live and let live.  Do not hate any person in life, because "As you sow so shall you reap". Act of hating is like a ball thrown on the wall, which bounce back on us. But the question is how do you manage them.

If someone really express that you are not wanted or welcomed, first ignore them. Since you are ignoring him, that does not mean that he will not trouble you. It reminds of a sms “Don't think since you are vegetarian, the lion does not eat you when encountered in jungle”. Yes, he will come and trouble you in some or the other way, so you cannot erase them. You cannot completely move out of them also as world is small, you need to encounter them some or the other way. So prioritise them in your life and give them least priority.

There is a limit for everything  and your tolerance too. One final day you get anger on them.  Getting angry is not bad, as it is a part and parcel of human life. But, if that anger is turned towards violence or to hurt someone then it is negative. You turn those anger into positivity by engaging in some physical exercise or some task. The other ways are share it with best friends if possible or  blog it out. Just let it go out of your system. If kept in your system it can cause some serious injuries to your thought process.

But if that person starts hurting your professional life or personal life then ultimately you need to fight. This is where the Ultimate Management Guru of this world Lord Krishna comes in. There was a king called Shishupala, who used to trouble Krishna very much. Krishna has given him the free pass for insulting 100 times. One final day, the Shishupala over crossed his limits and Krishna finished him. Definitely, I am not suggesting to kill that person. But what can we learn from Krishna? Ignore that person for the first time and forgive for the second time. If he continues, then time has come for you to stand up and counter attack. Go for killing his strategies or thoughts, which is targeted to trouble you. Then there onwards you don't have to tolerate that person and keep a check on him to manage proactively.

Disclaimer: I am not advocating the hating, but at the same time practical enough to save myself from it. Self-defence is not bad even if you hurt others while doing so.

Sports - Cricket…!!!

Sports, the moment the word is said people start thinking the waste of time and need to utilize that time for some fruitful cause. Is playing sports is bad..? If it is not a profession for a person does not have any benefit..?

Wikipedia defines it as - A sport is an organized, competitive, entertaining, and skillful activity requiring commitment, strategy, and fair play, in which a winner can be defined by objective means. It is governed by a set of rules or customs. In sports, the key factors are the physical capabilities and skills of the competitor when determining the outcome (winning or losing). This definition has lot of meaning involved in it. For a good human/student/manager, one need to be organized, skillful, committed, strategist, etc. By playing a sport all these can be achieved in simulated manner which can be used for better real purpose. Why should not we spend sometime on sport..?

Sport keeps you physically fit, which now a days kids are lacking and every now and then fall sick. If kid plays sports he can learn how to take defeats and manage themselves. Even elders are lacking physical fitness and sport can improve it. It refreshes one’s mind, give freshness to entire body and can relieved from our frustration. This also makes us to manage ourselves in social environment.

Cricket is a religion in India. But it is often criticized for spoiling people both kids and elders. Kids if they always play without study it harm their career. Elders do betting or ignoring their responsibility watches or play cricket. These are other side of the coin. But for me cricket gave me lot of things in life and am not a professional cricketer. Am from the Kannada medium student and did not have good knowledge of English reading as well as writing. Not ready speak in English and inferiority complex was building. Mother told me to read English news paper especially sports section since me interested in sports. My reading and writing skills improved. But still lacking in spoken English. So started listening to cricket commentary like an obedient student. This helped me to learn spoken English.

By playing Cricket learnt how to be a good team member. It made me keep aside my ego and get adjusted to people. It requires a lot of commitment to be fit and perform. Being committed is most required quality in corporate world. By leading a cricket team able to judge how to get best out of an individual. Again, this helps you when you are working with other team members or leading the team in corporate world. Playing cricket learnt practically ‘change is the only constant in this changing world’. You need to keep on inventing new skills and using it in better manner to be a winning cricketer. So it is in corporate world, need to acquire new skills and use it on daily task to be successful professionally.

It requires a lot of strategy to outperform the opponent team in cricket. Making a strategy to improve quality of work/task and exceed customer expectation. This allows a person to move ahead in corporate world. For the student, one needs to make lot of strategy to study and get good marks. Sometimes you feel frustrated and mentally fatigue. These can be overcome by playing your favorite sports. It creates few moments of sustained cessation, which is attained by yoga or meditation. Yoga makes you more introverts, but sports keeps you extrovert. Both extrovert and introvert are two faces of a valid coin i.e. personality. By playing sports I have earned lots of good friends personally and professionally.

I feel a human being should have at least one sports to be played on a regular basis to reap in many benefits.

Mathematics of Life

Mathematics can, broadly speaking, be subdivided into the study of quantity, structure, space, and change (i.e. arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and analysis). The mathematician Benjamin Peirce called mathematics "the science that draws necessary conclusions". But it has been always criticized that it does not contribute to human life. Only elementary mathematics is useful in day-to-day life. Art teaches the essence of life while, while science explores the truth of life, but what mathematics do?

Mathematics has lots of concept which can be related to life. One such example is simplex method. Simplex method in simple words ‘there will be three or more constraints out of which need to maximize profit or minimize losses. For a person life also has three major constraints Family, Profession, and Friends. All the three are important for person to lead a happy and peaceful life. You need to maximize your happiness with all these constraints. Person also has constraint of money to distribute among various things, which are constraints. You cannot allocate money for all and need to distribute among those so that your loss is minimized or profit is maximized.

The concept of a "limit" is used to describe the value that a function or sequence "approaches" as the input or index approaches some value. Here input is what you put an effort and function is the goal. The amount of effort is directly proportional to achievement of your goal.

Differential calculus is the study of the definition, properties, and applications of the derivative of a function. The process of finding the derivative is called differentiation. By finding the derivative of a function at every point in its domain, it is possible to produce a new function, called the derivative function or just the derivative of the original function. If you consider success/failure is a function and derivative is cause of success/failure. While analyzing success or failure, there is always small derivative causes this. That is why people say small-small things matters a lot in life.

Geometry is a part of mathematics concerned with questions of size, shape, relative position of figures, and the properties of space. These concepts come in life for various applications like driving a vehicle, playing games, lifting the object, interior decorations, reading maps etc.

Sets are one of the most fundamental concepts in mathematics. All collections of the familiar types of numbers are sets. If you want to have good friends in life you need find persons who have similar types of interest and should have same wavelength of thinking. This is what actually explained in one of the Panchatantra i.e. Mitrabheda.

Mathematics is always definitive and consistent. The problem is solved by intelligent person or average person or ordinary person, result is same. Like Mathematics, person should be definitive while making decisions. In-decisive mind makes you fall in trouble. Person should be consistent towards other human being irrespective of their status, caste, intelligence, culture, or age.

“I used to love mathematics for its own sake, and I still do, because it allows for no hypocrisy and no vagueness....” by anonymous. These words are said by anonymous, but the sentence is embossed in my heart.

Self-Confidence

In Ramyana during ‘kishkindha khanda’ Sugreeva’s forces were in search of Seeta, they came to know that Ravana taken her as hostage to Lanka, which is at the other side of the ocean. One of them has to cross over the ocean and communicate Rama’s message, but the ocean is very vast and someone has to fly 100 yojana (measure of distance during those days) without break to reach Lanka. In Sugreeva’s force nobody was that much capable and they were thinking who is going to do this job? At that time, Jambavanta, Chief of force, identifies Hanumantha can do this and he encourages him to do it. Hanumantha gets inspired and believes that he can do it and takes off. He reaches the Lanka without much difficulty. He escapes from the Ravana’s force and reaches Seetha at Ashoka Vana. He communicates the Rama’s message to her and tells her that if she wishes he can take her to Rama on his shoulder, but Seetha refuses saying let Rama only come and save her. While he was returning he was captured by Ravana’s force. In Ravana’s court, they lit the Hanumatha’s tail and after that he manages to escapes, lights the whole Lanka with his tail and returns successfully. He plays the major role in the battle between Rama and Ravana. He brings the ‘Sanjeevani Parvatha’ and rescues the Lakshmana’s life. He becomes the most adorable person by Rama and Seetha as well as by people.

While analyzing the Hanumantha’s character what we have to observe is until he starts believing in himself he was one among the force, but once he starts believing in himself, becomes most important person and best individual. The act of believing in oneself or one’s own ability is known as self confidence. Until the individual do not have the self-confidence he will remains normal person, but once he realizes one’s own ability, starts moving in the direction of superior path and can achieve greater stature in life.

To attain the self-confidence person has to find his own way to do this. Never imitate others way, it might have given him the success, but it would not work for you. Hanumantha has found his way by listening to Jambavantha’s words. You have to keep an eye on your own ability also, and in day-to-day life you come across lots of incidents, which will give you the confidence, gather them. If self-confidence is there you can achieve the ambition as you think it should be, no matter how difficult it would be. There is no impossible word in the dictionary of the self-confident person. You can take the right decision, can solve the problems effectively, and never be in panic. Self-confidence can get you the other personality attributes like attitude, rational thinking, persistency, etc.

Swami Vivekananda quotes “the person who does not have self-confidence is known as atheist. The ‘Sanathana Dharma’ called the people as atheist one who does not believe in god, but ‘Naveena Dharma’ says one who does not have self-confidence is known as atheist.” His sayings are eternal truth and encourages the youths to have self-confidence.
